Janice Dean Bowen, 68, of Richmond, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Janice was born on Sept. 23, 1951, in Excelsior Springs, the daughter of Maurice Dean and Elva Colene (Richardson) Wilson. She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Andrew Bowen of Richmond on June 26, 1970. He survives of the home.

Additional survivors include a son, Robert Dean “Bobby” (Rose) Bowen of Blue Springs; three daughters, Patricia Kay “Patty” Bowen of Murphysboro, Illinois, Rebecca Ann “Becky” Bowen of Kansas City and Sarah Beth Bowen of Richmond; two step-grandchildren, Dustin Maggard and Izac Maggard; a brother, Gary Dean Payne of Kansas; an aunt and uncle, David and Marie Simmons; extended family members, Angela DeVine, Shane Boutz and Barb O’Dell; and her puppy, Molly.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Janice was reared and educated in Richmond. She was a housewife and homemaker, who worked some outside of the home for the Richmond R-XVI School District. Janice was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Richmond and a member of the Ray County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She loved quilting, sewing and embroidering. Janice was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Shirkey Hospice. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept.23, 2020, at Richmond Memory Gardens. Ceremonies entrusted to Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond.
