Gerald Stephen “Jerry” Garner, 64, Richmond, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at his residence.

Jerry was born July 21, 1954, in Lexington, the son of James Alexander and Hilda (Rhodes) Garner.

Jerry was a custodian for the Federal Government and worked in the Parks and Recreation Department in Kansas City until he retired. He was a huge Chief and Royals fan and always decorated his Christmas tree with Chief’s memorabilia and kept it up year round. He enjoyed hunting and watching Westerns.

Survivors include: his caregiver, Teresa Dunwoodie; an aunt, Frances Wright; two stepbrothers, Henry McKenzie and Kirk Hull; brother-in-law, Dan Bielefeldt; stepsister, Karla Hull; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepparents; three brothers, Kenneth Garner, Tim Garner and Mike Garner; stepbrother, Scott Anderson; and sister, Mira Garner.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Autism Works, Inc. in Liberty. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 E. Main St. - P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Graveside services will be at 11a.m., Friday, June 7, 2019, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Grove. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at
