Frank Alan Purcell, 74, of Richmond, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020, at his home.

Frank Alan Purcell was born on Dec. 23, 1945, in Sheffield, Alabama. He spent his formative years in Hammond, Indiana. He was handsome, bright, funny and sensitive. He was a great storyteller and a gifted athlete (if not a bit of a troublemaker). In 1966, his family relocated to Rock Island, Illinois. It was there he met and married Trish Larson (Williams). In 1968, they had a daughter, Erin. Frank worked in retail sales, real estate, in sales and eventually appraisals. In 1985, he moved to Ogunquit, Maine, where he lived and worked in construction, commercial fishing and the restaurant industry. He was a beloved member of that small seaside community of year-round residents.

When his health started to decline, he decided to move to Richmond to be closer to his extended family, which provided such an amazing support system for him. He loved his grandchildren, nieces and nephews, reading, playing cards with friends, Budweiser beer and the Kansas City Chiefs. One of his most recent happiest moments was hearing the joy in his grandkids’ voices when the Kansas City Chiefs had won the Super Bowl. Of course, he had converted them (even though they were born and raised in New York City). Afterward, he sent them a life-sized Patrick Mahomes wall decal (much to their mother’s chagrin). This was typical of his sense of humor. The kids absolutely loved it. They also loved their “pau pau” so much.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Quinn Purcell; his mother, Mildred Smith; beloved baby sister, Cora Borja; and big brother, Tom Purcell Jr. He is survived by his older brother, James Donald Parker and sister-in-law, Rose Parker; his dear sister, Barbara Konzak, and brother-in-law, Phil Konzak; his loving brother, Bill Purcell (who was with him when he passed) and his sister-in-law, Paula Purcell; daughters Erin Quinn Purcell and Amy Bragg; his nieces and nephews; and his many beloved grandchildren.

Memorial services to be announced and held at a later date. Thurman Funeral Home of Richmond is charge of the arrangements. Please remember to share memories of Frank with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
