Edward Richard Hampton passed away peacefully on Sept. 9, 2020, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, with his wife by his side.

Ed was the son of Theadore and Virginia (Struebing) Hampton, born July 8, 1942, in Chicago. As a young man, Ed served in the U.S. Air Force.

He married Twila Wilker. They later divorced. This marriage was blessed with a son. On Feb. 17, 1977, he married Donna Wellman. They were blessed with more than 43 years of marriage.

In his work life, he worked at several places, including Harvesters and American Can, and he worked for Sunbeam Heating and Cooling for seven years before moving to Missouri in 1969. In Missouri, he worked as an insurance representative for a combined 30 years for Western and Southern and Reliable Life, and as a property manager for seven years before retiring in 2008.

Ed enjoyed and excelled at target archery, bowhunting and bowfishing. He was always quick to teach, share with, help and encourage others who were interested. He won many trophies. He loved spending time with his wife and their family. He had a great appreciation for life. Ed was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Richmond.

Ed is survived by his wife, Donna; three children, Richard Hampton and wife Laurie of Smithville, Sherry Christopher and husband Shan of Polo, and Jeff Wellman of Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandchildren, Kyle Hampton of Liberty, Joel Hampton of Smithville, Chastity Paulson and husband Ray of Peculiar, Jocelyn Kilmer and fiancé Austin Erwin of Kansas City, Kansas, and Jordan Kilmer of Liberty; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Austin Paulson of Peculiar.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bill, Ted and Jack Hampton; a sister, Cathy Otto; and special sister-in-law, Judy Acton.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept.15, 2020, at Faith Lutheran Church in Richmond. Visitation took place from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2020, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial occurred in Richmond Memory Gardens.
