Donald Ray “Butch” Bowman, 76, of Richmond, lost his battle with Parkinson’s on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Butch was born on Aug. 1, 1944, in Richmond, the son of Ray Stapp and Mary (Kraft) Bowman. He was united in marriage to Denise Louise Richards of Richmond on Nov. 14, 1970. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include a son, Bret (Johnna) Bowman of Richmond; daughter, Ellen (Troy) Vandiver of Richmond; five grandchildren, Kanon (Haley) Franklin, Mackenna Franklin, Brooke (Ethan) Stark, Taylor Vandiver and Taran Vandiver; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jean Greenlee of Richmond and Donna (Bill) Kolas of Higginsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Butch was reared and educated in Richmond and graduated in 1962 from Richmond High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War between 1968 and 1970. After returning from the war, he worked as a meat cutter for several years, before becoming a part owner in Richmond Hills United Super in 1985. He retired in 2005. Butch enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family. He served many years as a Shirkey Golf Club Board member. Butch also served as a deacon at the United Christian Presbyterian Church, was on the Wakenda Cemetery Board and a member of the Richmond All Sports Club. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.

Butch will lie in state from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, 2020, at the United Christian Presbyterian Church in Richmond. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, 2020, at the church. Burial will follow the services in Wakenda Cemetery, north of Hardin. Full military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and Ray County Veterans.
