Daniel L. Oster, age 88, of Carrollton, Missouri, and former Richmond, Missouri resident, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at NorthCare Hospice in North Kansas City, Missouri.

Daniel was the son of Harold L. and Hazel E. (Bisel) Oster and was born on December 9, 1933 in northwest Carroll County. He married JoAnna Carter on June 10, 1951, at his family home, and to this union they were later blessed with four boys, Laverne D., Lavere C., Leonard L., and Larry A..

Dan was raised on a farm in northwest Carroll County where his dad taught him to be a carpenter and farmer, and he shared those skills while working with his sons until the late eighties. He owned and operated a saw mill and did custom combining from 1966 until 1990 when he sold the farm. At this point, he began doing only carpentry work and was employed by Access II Independent Living for eighteen years and found it to be a privilege to build ramps and make client’s homes handicapped accessible so they could live independently. Dan was community oriented and wanted to help people by serving as a county councilman, township board member for twelve years, and as a Board Member for the Braymer Community Fire Department. He was also a road grader operator for New York Township for six years, and after moving to Carrollton, he did the same job for Moss Creek Township for nine years. Nearly every morning began the same way; Dan would say a prayer thanking God for the beautiful day and his many blessings, his beautiful wife, and his wonderful family. He would then go to his collection of calendars where he recorded all kinds of data for the day, such as the temperature, whether it was sunny or cloudy, raining or snowing, and he had continued this ritual since the 1980’s. Dan was one of the most kind, generous, and joyous people you could have ever known. He always had a smile and a joke that he wanted to share. Truly the jokes were always funny, but the most fun part was to watch him smile and laugh whole heartedly while he was trying to tell the joke, and most often he would start laughing before he could finish and you would find yourself laughing along! Dan absolutely loved it when friends and family would come together to visit and play his favorite card games like pitch and phase 10. He taught his family by the way he lived, to be kind and helpful to others and he no doubt loved his family dearly. He found Christ at an early age and was a very faithful Christian who served in many capacities within his church such as holding an office, and since he was a very gifted carpenter who built houses and made all kinds of repairs, it was only natural for him to help renovate or repair anything that needed to be done.

Dan will be sadly missed by his family, his beloved wife of seventy-one years, JoAnna of the home; two sons, Laverne Oster of Braymer, Missouri, and Larry Oster and wife Rebecca of Carrollton, Missouri; his grandchildren, Jeffery Oster (significant other Karen Silvers) of Chillicothe, Missouri, Kenda Morrison ( husband Tim) of Hannibal, Missouri, Cinphany Oster  (fiancé Gage Ham) of Chillicothe, Missouri, Lavere Allen Oster of Olathe, Kansas, Penny Johnson of Corder, Missouri, Nathaniel Oster of Springfield, Missouri, Aimee Oster of Elkhorn, Oklahoma, Nicholas Oster of Houston, Texas, Brandon Hayes of Rockingham, North Carolina, Heather Shoemaker (husband Branigan) of Cameron, Missouri, Cortney Miller (husband Ryan) of Trenton, Missouri, Michael Oster (wife Hailey) of Richmond, Virginia, Hailey Hayes (significant other James Wellman) of Carrollton, Missouri; and twenty great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Hazel Oster; two sons, Lavere C. Oster and Leonard L. Oster; three great-granddaughters; one sister, Virginia Lee Anderson; and one brother, Morris Ray Oster.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 10, 2022, from noon until 12:45 p.m., at the Rayville Christian Union Church, Rayville, Missouri.

Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Mark Bickford officiating.
