Bruce Duane Burstert, 63, of Lexington, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022, in Lexington. 

Bruce was born on Oct. 17, 1958, in Topeka, KS, the son of Roy Francis “Buster” and Barbara Jean (Brooks) Burstert. 

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Jean Burstert of Richmond; brother, Brian (Kipper) Burstert of Richmond; sister, Melanie (Kevin) Schreier of Lexington; nephews and nieces, Joshua (Abby) Burstert, Christopher (Chelsea) Burstert, Allie (Chris) Edwards, Courtney (David) Chaney, Stephanie (Kyle) Brockhaus, and Haylee Schreier; and other extended family and friends also survive. 

He was preceded in death by his father and great-nephew, Christopher Brian Burstert, Jr. 

Bruce was reared and educated in Richmond and graduated from Richmond High School in the class of 1977. He was very musically inclined and loved to sing and perform from an early age. Bruce won several state competitions as a vocalist in high school. Over the years, he sang professionally and at countless weddings and funerals. Bruce was an accomplished interior designer and had several of his works published in magazines. He was an artist and enjoyed painting. Bruce was a good cook and enjoyed entertaining. He liked rustic things and collecting antiques. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Friends of the Farris Theatre.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
