Betty Sue Edgar, 75, of Richmond died unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond. 

Betty was born on Oct. 22, 1946, in Richmond the daughter of Albert E. and Florence Louise (Rogers) Leach. She was united in marriage to Warren Jay “Jay Bird” Edgar of Richmond on Feb. 11, 1965, he preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 2001. 

Survivors include son, Jeff Jay Edgar of Richmond; daughter, Renell (Derek) Klein of Richmond; two grandchildren, Derek Klein, Jr. and Nicolas Ray (Kimberly) Klein; three brothers, James “Jimmy” (Bonnie) Leach of Hardin, Billy (Linda) Leach of Richmond, and Donald Leach of Richmond; sister, Roberta Hockemeier of North Kansas City. 

Preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Carma Richardson. 

Betty was reared and educated in Richmond and graduated from Richmond High School in 1964. Betty was a housewife and homemaker while raising her family when her husband worked for the Ford Motor Company. After raising her children, she worked for the Price Candy factory in Richmond, for the Richmond School District, Linda’s Floral in Richmond and for the past twenty years she was a friendly smile at our local Subway. Betty loved people and never met a stranger. She was a loving and kindhearted person. She enjoyed working out in the yard mowing and planting flowers she also loved to line dance. 

Family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association. Memorials can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main St. – P.O. Box 190 Richmond, MO 64085. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens.
