Body

Barbara Ann Barr, 64, of Richmond, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, at KU Medical Center.

Barb was born on Nov. 2, 1956, in Lexington, the daughter of W.A. and Barbara (Myers) Butler. She was united in marriage to Stanley W. Barr of Odessa on June 14, 1975. He survives of the home, with their beloved pet, Dora.

Additional survivors include: two daughters, Megan (Mike) Nichols of Lathrop and Kristin (Ryan) Shane of Richmond; five grandchildren, Colton Nichols, Maycee Nichols, Autum Nichols, Ensley Shane and Jett Shane; three brothers, Gary (Harriett) Butler of Richmond, Rick (Debbie) Butler of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Bill Butler of Kansas City; and two sisters, Linda (John) Neer of Macon and Tina (Keith) Stidham of Pleasant Hill.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Barb was reared and educated in Lexington until her freshman year, when her family moved to Parsons, Kansas. She would finish her senior year at Hickman Mills High School, graduating in 1975. Barb was a caregiver for the mentally handicapped for more than 25 years in the Ray County area, where she touched many lives. She was working as an optician at Insight Eyecare in Richmond at the time of her death.

Barb enjoyed doing crafts, shopping, and tending to her yard and flowers. Her family and grandkids meant everything to her. She enjoyed attending all her kids’ and grandkids’ events and would be the loudest fan there. She and her husband were sweethearts and soulmates for 50 years. She lived by the mottos “love big and live with no regrets” and “there are worse things than dying.”

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Arthritis Foundation. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10, at the funeral home. Masks are required to attend all services. Burial will be in Todd’s Chapel Cemetery.
