Virus pressures hospital staff, CEO states

RICHMOND – COVID-19 strains Ray County Memorial Hospital staff, some contracted the virus, but all remain dedicated to patient care, Administrator Earl Sheehy said Tuesday. “We have several staff members who have tested positive,” he said. “We’re worried.” One key hospital staff member who tested positive within the last two weeks for the virus is going through the protocol and cannot return to work until next week, Sheehy said “(The person) is not working in the hospital or in the clinic,” he said. “We have the same staffing issues that the bigger hospitals have.” The hospital is licensed for 25 beds, Sheehy said. “Twenty would be pushing our staffing limits,” he said. “We actually renovated a five-bed wing for COVID patients, and we have been using it,” Sheehy said. “It’s getting harder and harder to transfer a patient into the city. Beds aren’t available.” Countywide virus cases are up 64%, or 160 cases, in the past month. The number jumped from 249 on Oct. 19 to 409 cases…
