CONFLICTING INFO

RAY COUNTY farmer Aaron Hicks, Henrietta, asks about conflicting planting information.

ODESSA – Information on the number of unplanted acres this year seems contradictory, farmer Aaron Hicks, Henrietta, told House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson.

“We kind of live and die by these USDA reports,” Hicks said. “A NASA satellite image of unplanted acres – not just Missouri, this extends all the way to Ohio, the corn belt – (shows) unplanted acres. And a week ago, we got another of these USDA reports saying we had more planted acres than last year. So, I don’t know how.”

Peterson said he is familiar with the apparent incongruity.

“I asked the question of the department. It just doesn’t make sense,” he said.

“I don’t know that the market has really had a chance to work like it should,” Hicks said.
