RICHMOND – About twice as many people this year versus last received help through the Ray County Shop With a Sheriff program, organizer Melissa Perkins says while signing in families at Walmart. “This year, we have a total of 20 families with 44 kids to help out this year,” she says. More law enforcers, including Missouri Highway Patrol members, turn out to help with the program. “The more the merrier,” Sheriff’s Deputy David Francken Sr. says. “The Highway Patrol reached out to us and everybody’s here to help.” Sheriff Garry Bush says the turnout is terrific. “It’s picked up every year since we’ve had it,” Bush says. The program that started five years shows community dedication. Bush says. “They’re great people. They got out and worked to get this done,” Bush says. The efforts of law enforcers and other volunteers include collecting funds to offer the program, and on shopping day, they escort children around the store. The children purchase Christmas gifts for their families…
