Sheriff’s Office assists in arrest after homicide

HARDIN – The Ray County Sheriff’s Office assisted area law enforcers in the arrest of a murder suspect in Hardin. Sheriff Garry Bush said Aug. 21 that area law enforcers alerted his office that the suspect, Thorne McKendrick, 19, Kansas City, could be in southeastern Ray County. Bush’s staff began to search for McKendrick. “We figured it out,” Bush said. “Being in a small town, if you see a new SUV, there’s something there. They know it’s somebody doing something.” After determining McKendrick’s exact location, Bush said his office alerted the U.S. Marshals Service. “We knew where the guy was,” he said. Information from Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker’s office states McKendrick had been on the run for more than two weeks. McKendrick is charged in Jackson County with four offenses: second-degree murder, armed criminal action and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.
