Sheriff discusses human trafficking in Ray County

SOPHIA BALES Staff Writer Human trafficking is not only important to Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers during Human Trafficking Prevention Month, but year round. With the goal of spreading awareness on the topic, Childers provided insight on different types of trafficking, noting he has already worked two cases in Ray County. “One victim did not want to pursue her abusers. She has been put in a safe place and is receiving mental health treatment. The second victim was submitted to Ray County Prosecuting Attorney Camille Johnston six months ago and it hasn’t been filed,” said Childers. Johnston said she understands human trafficking is a “very serious crime” and as of this week –has not been brought any probable cause by law enforcement of it occurring in the county. “The community can be rest assured that if there was probable cause of human trafficking occurring in Ray County, a case would be filed on it.
