Salvation Army stands at attention to assist families for holidays

RICHMOND – The regular food distribution effort will not take place Nov. 27 at the Salvation Army Store, 104 E. Main St., but the Salvation Army stands ready to provide Christmas boxes and a Christmas Store. “Sadly, Harvesters is not delivering to us on that Friday after Thanksgiving,” store manager Phillip Powers said. The Salvation Army food pantry will work to assist families during the coming holidays, he said. “We hand out Christmas boxes,” he said. “If people need food, we help them during that time. They just need to call us if they have a need for assistance. Hopefully, everyone will be giving us the turkeys like they have in years past. The Ford Union has given us turkeys.” In addition to turkeys, the pantry has been able to provide side dishes, such as dressing and vegetables. “We’ll have that for them as well,” Powers said.
