Rust family honored for 132-year-old farm
RICHMOND – Many Ray Countians know Troy Rust for his financial consulting work.
What they might not know is that Rust also is a man of the land, as his father and a few of his grandfathers were – a fact that has drawn state recognition.
On Sept. 24, MU Extension personnel and Missouri Farm Bureau representative Jim Proffitt recognized the Rust family farm as a Missouri Century Farm with a short ceremony outside the Thomas Eagleton Civic Center. Sponsored by the MU Extension and Missouri Farm Bureau, Century Farm awards are presented to family farms that have been owned by one family “for 100 consecutive years or more” and are 40 acres or larger, with that acreage providing “a financial contribution to the overall income,” the MU Extension website states.
“It’s quite an honor, quite frankly,” Rust said.
