Ray to sue over opioids

RAY COUNTY seeks to recoup losses caused by opioid addiction.

RICHMOND – Comparing Ray County to David and opioid makers to Goliath in the county’s coming lawsuit might seem understated.

At first glance, a better comparison might be a cage match between an ant wrestling an elephant.

But the Ray County Commission did not glance at what they planned to get into when they voted to file suit against opioid makers. They studied what they wanted to do for months. Then they spent more months meeting with various lawyers who wanted to represent the county. The commission near the end of the yearlong process then compared contracts side by side.

In the end, they decided to sue.
