No surprises in governor, other statewide races

LIBERTY – Statewide elections produced no surprises, with big-name candidates – Republican Mike Parson and Democrat Nicole Galloway – easily winning their respective primaries for governor Tuesday. Parson took 75% of the vote in a four-way race that included an area state representative, Jim Neely. Galloway took nearly 85% of the vote in her five-way race. Republican incumbent Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe beat back three challengers to move on to the general election. Other GOP incumbents ran unopposed for secretary, treasurer and attorney general. For Democrats, Alissa Canady beat Gregory Upchurch for lieutenant governor and Rich Finneran defeated Elad Gross for attorney general. In the 5th Congressional District race among Democrats, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II thumped challenger Maite Salazar. In a six-way GOP race to face Cleaver in November, Ryan Derks defeated Jerry Barham, Clay Chastain, Weldon Woodward, Richonda Oaks and R.H. Hess.
