WASHINGTON – Stimulus funds and the U.S. Postal Service affect millions of Americans – from Ray and Clay counties to all points across the nation – and Congress is divided along party lines about handling each issue. U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II answered questions involving the issues. STIMULUS FUNDS Regarding economic relief for those suffering business and job losses because of the coronavirus, Republicans propose a $1 trillion package. They offer jobless workers $200 weekly in federal funds, one third of the $600 received under the first stimulus plan. Democrats propose a $3 trillion package. They would continue paying $600 in weekly federal benefits. Those against $600 payments have said the amount exceeds what some employees made while working. Proponents have said jobs are hard to find and the payments keep the economy running. In the style of Solomon, both sides could compromise by approving a $2 trillion package.
