Mural brightens west side entrance into downtown

RICHMOND – A mural depicting a Ray County farm from nearly 200 years ago is found on the building wall across from the Farris Theatre at West Main and South Camden streets. Ray County Community Arts Association President Melinda White said the association commissioned the work. “The purpose was to bring beauty to Ray County and Richmond – something all the citizens could enjoy,” White said. “It also is representative of the bicentennial.” The county and state will celebrate 200 years in 2021. The farm in the mural is nearly two centuries old, White said, and belongs to Isaiah Mansur. “It’s a real place. It’s out northeast (of) Richmond,” she said, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. “We went out to see it a couple of weeks ago. It’s a beautiful home, still.
