In mid-February, Realtor and Rotarian Tammy Williams changed out of her real-estate clothes and into a T-shirt and jeans for a medical mission trip to Jamaica.

“It’s the satisfaction of helping others,” Williams said of the trip, her third in as many years.

Rotarian Frazer Letzig had been going on the mission trip for years and had invited Dr. William David Rich, a dentist from Lexington, to speak at a Rotary meeting about the medical-mission trip.

“I was so touched by everything he (Rich) talked about, and all the people they helped, that I wanted to be a part of it,” Williams said.

So on the next trip, Williams found herself on a plane headed for seven days in Jamaica – not to lounge on the beach, but to help Jamaicans in rural parishes (parishes are subdivisions of the three counties in Jamaica).

On a medical mission

For 18 years, Northminster Presbyterian Church in Kansas City has partnered with North Kansas City Rotary Club, Rotary International Foundation, and other civic and religious organizations to bring free medical services to Jamaica.
