Here is a new word for you.  the word is “hospitalist.”

That is a doctor who is assigned to a hospital to look over the acute patients.

I had a hospitalist but did not know it.  My hospital bill shows that a had a couple of visits.  I do not remember him or them.

I had a number of people in white coats who stopped by and asked how I was feeling and then they went on their way.  They might have been “hospitalists.”
