Jail admin explains warrants

Many Ray County residents are concerned that only one person is tasked with cancelling warrants at Ray County Jail. Ray County Jail Administrator Melanie Pumphery handles warrant cancellations and although the task may look daunting from afar, she notes the process is not complicated. “I am the only person here who is trained, — who has ever had any type of warrant entry experience — so I am doing it all. I came from Clay County dispatch. This is nothing new for me, this isn’t confusing,” she said. Ray County residents question how she can manage the warrants on her own in a timely manner. Pumphery explained warrants take precedence over any other duty she has. “As a warrant comes in from the courts, I process and enter the warrants within the required time frame, within the same day they are received,” said Pumphery.
