JEFFERSON CITY – State Sen. Denny Hoskins got another dog bill through the General Assembly. The latest legislation addresses service animals. “It puts in another level of service animal, like for (some) veterans or others who may have mental health disorders. It would allow service dogs to be used by them in public, similar to a Seeing Eye dog or hearing dog,” Hoskins said. The measure also cracks down on people who pretend regular animals are service animals. “There’s been a spike in people that are claiming to have a service animal or an emotional support dog, and really it has not been trained; it has not been used for anything like that,” Hoskins said. “Many of those fake service animals are not trained to be in (social) situations; they’re not trained to bring into a restaurant, they’re not trained to bring into a hotel, and many times, they try to be passed off as a service animal and really puts those who have legitimate needs for a service animal at a disadvantage.” In…
