District sets possible dates for graduation

RICHMOND – Incoming Richmond High School Principal Justin Remington led the discussion on the proposed date, and alternative dates, for the Class of 2020 graduation at the latest school board meeting. The newly proposed time and date are 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, more than a month later than the May graduation date the district had to skip due to COVID-19, acting Superintendent Jim Finley reminded the board. Graduation practice is scheduled to take place at 9 a.m., Friday, June 26, on the football field, with more details to come. The hope is to have as close to a traditional graduation as possible, Finley said. Remington said chairs on the football field would be spaced to observe social distancing guidelines. The plan is not firm, with whether to limit guests and to allow lawn chairs still undetermined. Chairs are better than using bleachers for the event, he said. “We could use the stands, but would have to mark where people have to be, if we still have to social distance,”…
