RICHMOND – Allen Dale’s Ray County Commission seat sat vacant during Friday’s meeting and will remain vacant all next week. “I’ve been designated as a ‘contact.’ I’ve been too close” to someone who has the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, Dale said by phone Oct. 30. “I’m going to have to sit out. I don’t want to put anybody at risk.” Dale declined to say whether the person with whom he had contact is either a relative, friend or associate. On the day when the nation set a new record for one-day coronavirus cases, 90,456, Dale said he is not among those who have been diagnosed with the disease. He said he has no symptoms but is in quarantine just in case. Two weeks earlier, Dale faced criticism for standing by a commission policy that for the safety of seniors closed the Ray County Senior Center, which is part of the larger Eagleton Center, He said seniors are most susceptible to the virus and he felt obligated to protect their health.
