Counties prepare for secure elections

LIBERTY – Election officials in Ray and Clay counties said they plan for secure, safe elections – free from violence some fear and guarding against COVID-19. “My office is doing what they’re supposed to do and if everybody else does what they’re supposed to do, we’ll have no problems,” Ray County Clerk Glenda Powell, the county’s chief election official, said. PROTESTS People in both counties have called their election officials to voice concern about being safe when voting, due to fears raised about such groups as the right-wing Proud Boys and the left-wing Antifa anti-fascist movement that opposes the ideology that produced Hitler and Mussolini. “At the polling places, they’re worried that the voters will be harassed” by Black Lives Matter protestors, Powell said.
