RICHMOND – The public said no to early release for the so-called “toxic pharmacist,” Robert Courtney, and the Bureau of Prisons did an about-face. From Clay County, Courtney diluted life-saving cancer and other drugs with his for-profit scam, much like the stereotype of a butcher putting his thumb on a meat scale. Courtney received a 30-year sentence. Due to general concern for inmates’ health caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the Federal Bureau of Prisons started an inmate home confinement program for older inmates. Courtney is 67. The bureau ran into opposition when the public learned of the plan to place him in a halfway house and to later release him to home confinement. “Robert Courtney is a man who took advantage of public trust to commit abhorrent crimes that led to pain and suffering of hundreds, if not thousands, of Kansas Citians,” U.S. Rep.
