Bill calls for same rules during health crises for churches, businesses

SPRINGFIELD – A bill filed in the Missouri Senate by Republican Sen. Robert Onder would block state and county governments from creating rules or ordinances that impose any greater restrictions on religious activities, like attendance or participation in any service or meeting, than non-religious activities during a health emergency like the pandemic. The Springfield-Greene County Health Department has kept the rules the same across the board for places in its current order. “I feel like it’s been fair (and) I feel like they’ve done a great job of allowing us to gather when it was responsible to, and having measures in place that allow us to still worship at the same time without causing (a) super-spreader event,” North Point Church Lead Pastor Jeremy Johnson said.
