American Celebration schedule: June 29 at Southview Pool

American Celebration runs from 5 to after 9:30 p.m. Friday at Southview Park, 333 E. South St., Richmond. (If rained out, it will occur on Sunday, July 1). The free event, put on by the Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce, includes:

Free swim at Southview Pool, 5-8:30 p.m.

Swim with the Heartland Mermaid, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Mermaid events sponsored by Missouri Farm and Mutual Insurance Co.

Pictures with the Heartland Mermaid, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Concessions open, 6 p.m. Reduced prices thanks to partial underwriting from Shirkey Nursing & Rehabilitation, Ray County Memorial Hospital, Sonic, Tequila Jalisco Mexican Restaurant, All Sports Club and Richmond Shell. While it lasts, there’ll be free watermelon courtesy of Dave’s Country Mart. Also, Bridge of Hope will sell ice cream, and Richmond FFA will sell root-beer floats and hot dogs at Richmond High School next to the park, and

National Anthem, Invocation and Patriotic Ceremony, 6 p.m. By the Griffith Skiles American Legion Post No. 237 and Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 4398.

Bounce houses, 6-8 p.m. Provided by Noble Unlimited.

Face painting, starting at 6 p.m. Provided by First Baptist Church of Richmond.

DJ music by Southwerx Entertainment, 7-9 p.m.

Hot-dog eating contest, 8 p.m. Sponsored by Shirkey Hospice and Palliative Care.

Flag lowering, 9 p.m.

Fireworks Spectacular, approximately 9:30 p.m. Sponsored in part by Henkel.
