HIGGINSVILLE - Ray County veterans and their spouses are among the more than 4,000 graves at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Higginsville.

On Memorial Day, Latisha Koetting from the Missouri Veterans Home - Warrensburg shares the stories of the veterans she met as the editor at the Sedalia Democrat and as the volunteer supervisor at the home.

“When we lose a veteran, a bell is rung in our lobby three times,” she said. “Every veteran enters through the front door as they are welcomed into our building and they leave through that same door with honor and respect.”

Koetting is the granddaughter, daughter and niece of veterans and her passion and respect for veterans shows as she tells their stories.
