RICHMOND – For a weekend, three women bonded as sisters.
Lisa Pierce and Annette Gaiser, adopted by different families when they were children, met their half-sister, Brenda Hamm, during a reunion over the Labor Day weekend.
Hamm said they spent Saturday meeting with family members, including their uncle, Hubert Martin.
“We showed him a picture of Danny, Lisa and John, and that’s how he remembered the children,” Hamm said.
Pierce’s son did some genealogy research for his mother and her sisters, and they visited the gravesites during Pierce’s visit.
“On Sunday, we visited Morton Union Church together and sang a trio to ‘In the Garden,’” Hamm said. “It was like we’d practiced together forever.”
Hamm said Martin offered his DNA in an effort to find his two nephews, Danny and John.
Before Pierce left, she and Hamm looked over their DNA results, trying to find clues as to their brothers’ whereabouts.
“We’re going to keep looking,” Hamm said on the phone Friday. “There’s so much we don’t know.”
