Jones Store, third generation business closes a chapter

In a business-driven world, where small businesses are tested year after year to stay afloat and to thrive – The Jones Store owners Ernie and Nancy Jones know a thing or two about the topic. Ernie took the saying “Keeping up with the Joneses” seriously and is a third generational business owner. The business originally started in 1906 with Casey Jones, Sr. in a partnership with Harry Smith. The store was called “Smith and Shoop Hardware” and was located on the east side of Richmond square.

Elliott, Aggies prompt football rethink

Keyshaun Elliott almost changed my feelings about college football.

Elliott, many of you will recall, was a standout three-sport athlete at Richmond High School, where he graduated in 2022. Now in his second year at New Mexico State University, he plays linebacker for the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision program. In following Elliott this season, I learned he and his fellow Aggies had a string of midweek games scheduled – three Wednesday night games, one Tuesday night game.
