Younger Spartans get reps as Richmond romps past Panthers

KNOB NOSTER – Like Richmond’s 64-0 thumping of Carrollton in Week 6, the Spartans’ 48-0 Oct. 14 rout of Knob Noster allowed some younger players to get some second-half game reps. “Our varsity guys get a lot of recognition – as they should, because they play really well and they’ve earned it,” coach Nick Persell said minutes after the Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC) East Division road victory. “But it’s always fun when our varsity plays so well that some of our guys that work really hard on the scout teams … all week in practice get a little notoriety in the football game as well, so (I’m) proud of those guys.” Those getting some notoriety included Dayton Bushong. Sporting No. 44, the sophomore did what some fans might consider a prep football imitation of two pro players known for wearing that number: current San Francisco fullback Kyle Juszczyk and old-school fullback Tom Rathman.
