Winter prep sports will be a blast — weather permitting

I’m looking forward to the high school winter sports season. Wait. Let me rephrase that. I’m looking forward to the high school winter sports season if the weather cooperates. In January, as you’ll recall, the weather didn’t cooperate. We Ray Countians got a mix of snow, ice and sub-subsub- sub-sub-freezing temperatures that forced the postponement and/or cancellation of basketball games, and wrestling tournaments and duals for roughly two weeks. And as I learned from corresponding with area coaches, the cold spell squelched team practices, for the most part. Thus, I’m hoping for one of two conditions. One is that any snowfall sticks to everything except the roads. That way, the scenery looks pretty, yet we still have sports events. Oh, and I don’t have to worry about my truck doing a terrible impression of a toboggan while, say, driving to cover Richmond boys basketball. The other is that, if the snow sticks to the roads, the temperatures quickly get above freezing and melt it…
