Vantrump hopes Spartans continue playing like they practice

Richmond varsity girls basketball coach Kaylee Vantrump hopes her Spartans play like they practice this week in the Lawson Invitational, just as they did Jan. 4 during their 51-45 loss to visiting Pleasant Hill. Provided, of course, the weather allows them to play this week. “We have been struggling with doing what we practice and implementing it into a game,” Vantrump said minutes after the Pleasant Hill meeting. “And tonight, we did that. We were making backdoor cuts and we were looking for each other; and we were running the offense, which we haven’t done very much this season. … They just played on a whole other level tonight.” By playing like they practiced, the Spartans kept pace with the Chicks and led briefly during the first half, Vantrump suggested. “We’ve been focusing on driving and kicking, and just attacking the basket and looking for that backdoor cut – and we did a phenomenal job (of that) … the first quarter,” she said.
