Thacker, ’Cats hone new-ish offense; prep for familiar foe

On Sept. 29, Orrick varsity 8-man football coach Kirk Thacker saw his spread offense click. This week, Thacker hopes to see it click again as he faces the program he was leading when he developed it. Orrick first utilized the offense during its Week 5 loss to Northwest of Hughesville/ Otterville. After making some personnel tweaks, the Bearcats tried it again in Week 6. This time, the Bearcats cruised to a 5030 road victory over Sweet Springs – their first win this season. “We looked very good,” Thacker said Monday during practice at Simmons Field, where the Bearcats play their home games. “We’re still figuring it out.” Jaxon Miller directed the offense at quarterback. Miller, a senior, “made some good decisions, made some poor decisions,” Thacker said. “But (he) didn’t cost us anything. … (There were) a couple times where he should’ve run instead of passed,” Thacker added. “He ended up … with a lot of rushing yards off of broken plays.” Miller was credited with 196 rushing…
