Sports-and-music bucket list tour includes stops in Texas
Lately, I’ve found myself inspired by two sources: Aaron Holst and Bugs Bunny.
Holst, of course, coached varsity baseball and taught for many years in the Excelsior Springs School District. He coached his last game for Excelsior Springs May 22, when the Tigers lost to Benton of St. Joseph in the Class 4 District 15 Tournament. As you might recall, the field in that postseason competition included Richmond, which lost to Benton.
Shortly after the defeat, sports reporting protégé Micah Dillman and I interviewed him, and he shared his plans after retiring from the school district. They include finding another place to serve as a head baseball coach or assistant coach. They also include playing pickleball – the sport I took up about six years ago in Richmond and hope to play more frequently once my orthopedist finishes installing what he called my “matching set” of fake hips and maybe puts in a fake shoulder.
