Spartans win district, knock off undefeated Raiders in sectionals

RICHMOND – Pem-broke Hill is no longer undefeated in boys basketball. And Richmond is in the state quarterfinals in boys basketball. Both conditions were made possible by Richmond’s 63-47 home win over Pembroke Hill on Tuesday in Class 4 Sectional 8 play. With the victory, the Spartans, 23-3, advanced to face The Barstow School at 6 p.m. Friday. As of this writing, the site had not been determined. “The jury on those guys is, they (have) got some really good players and really good athletes,” Richmond boys coach Kevin Jermain said. “But we told them before the game, ‘People are pretty intimidated by us, too. We’ve got some really good players and really good athletes.’ And … they came in confident and they jumped on them early. … Our guys just competed, and when you compete like that and you (have) got players like we do, you (have) got a great chance.” A 15-2 first-half run helped give the Spartans the momentum they needed to knock off the Raiders.
