Spartans think pink
Richmond didn’t wear its usual red or white jerseys on Oct. 6, when the Spartans fell to Lexington 3-0 at Lexington in varsity volleyball action.
Nor did the Spartans wear them Tuesday, when they defeated/lost to Lafayette County of Higginsville 3-0.
They wore pink instead. In observance of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Spartans sported dark pink jerseys during their best-of-five Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC) East Division match with Lexington. Some Spartans had different jersey numbers than usual. Junior Laney Moyer, for example, sported No. 7, rather than her usual 16.
“Honestly, I couldn’t find a 16, unless someone took it,” Moyer said.
In light pink were the Minutewomen, who used the evening as a fundraiser to help Lexington resident and breast cancer patient Sara Bell, whose husband is a school district employee, Lexington coach Kenzie Phillips said.
