Spartans stage comeback to complete sweep of ’Cats
A timeout called by Richmond varsity volleyball coach Cody Hogan gave his Spartans the reboot they needed to finish their 3-0 Sept. 12 sweep of visiting Orrick.
Hogan called the timeout with Orrick leading the third set of the best-of-five match 21-15. The Spartans responded by closing with a 10-1 run.
Hogan has a knack for calling timeouts at the right moments, according to one of his players, sophomore Paige Logsdon.
“(He’s good at), really, just bringing us up and … saying that it’s really not hard in volleyball to come back six or so points – or anything around there – and we just … need to get out of our … (heads) and keep our eyes off the scoreboard, because that helps a lot with our communication skills and our mood and the way we play,” said Logsdon, an outside hitter.
Timeouts called by Hogan when the Spartans are struggling gives them “time to get a drink and just talk about what we need to work on,” middle hitter/outside hitter Addison Burk said.
