Spartans see loss as motivator for homecoming
HIGGINSVILLE – Richmond has motivation for staying focused for Friday’s homecoming meeting with Carrollton in varsity 11-man football, teammates Nolan Quick and Jacob Johnson agree.
That motivation is the final score of the Spartans’ Week 5 meeting with Lafayette County of Higginsville: Huskers, 70, Spartans 28.
“This loss today will do a lot more than talking at practice will,” Johnson said minutes after the Sept. 27 road defeat.
“Especially after a loss like this, you don’t want to be distracted and then go out and lose to a pretty good Carrollton team,” said Quick, a wide receiver/defensive back.
Losing their Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC)-East Division opener by 42 points will keep the Spartans (3-2 overall, 0-1 division) focused because of “the sour taste in our mouth,” said Johnson, Richmond’s starting quarterback.
