A Richmond High School alumnus was honored before Richmond’s 42-0 victory over Knob Noster in varsity 11-man football. About 30 minutes before the Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC)-East Division meeting at Spartan Stadium, a short ceremony was held to retire Evan Vandiver’s football jersey number, 21. The ceremony for Vandiver, a 2022 graduatewhopassedawayinJuly,included a tribute read by retired Richmond News sports editor Russ Green. It also included the presentation of Vandiver’s jersey to his family by former teammates Tanner Bennett, Colin Cromley and Layne Cavanah. “We’re very grateful for the support the community has given us at this time,” the family said in a statement. The ceremony honored a student athlete who helped the Spartans reach the Class 2 state semifinals in 2021 in football, was a two-time all-academic MRVC East selection and a 2021 first-team MRVC East selection as a player.
