Spartans fight off Panthers, hand KN first loss
With a goal line stand and some groundand- pound offense, Richmond made sure Knob Noster didn’t stage a fourth-quarter comeback – and that the Panthers didn’t finish their varsity 11-man football season undefeated.
Richmond led Knob Noster 24-14 in the fourth quarter of the Oct. 17 Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC)-East Division meeting, but the Panthers had the ball at the Richmond 1-yard line. Facing fourth-and-goal, Knob Noster gave the ball to running back Conner Morris. The Spartans stuffed the attempt. Taking over on downs with 3 minutes, 52 seconds remaining, Richmond ran out the clock to secure the 10-point win.
Luke Gifford was credited with dumping Morris for a 2-yard loss to give Richmond (6-2 overall, 3-1 division) its final possession.
