HIGGINSVILLE – Richmond threatened to spoil Lafayette County of Higginsville’s bid to go undefeated in Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC) East Division varsity baseball when the teams met Tuesday at Fairground Park. Trailing 4-2, the Spartans knotted it at 4 in the top of the seventh inning. The Huskers, however, pulled out a 5-4 victory, courtesy of Josiah Golden’s twoout, bases-loaded walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh. Richmond forced Lafayette County to rally from an early deficit to get the win. The Spartans posted two runs in the top of the first. The Huskers answered with two runs in the bottom of the first and added two more in the fourth. Following a 14-1 nondivisional, non-conference thumping Monday by Lawson at Southview Park, the defeat put Richmond at 4-11 overall and 3-4 in the MRVC East entering Thursday’s divisional home meeting with Carrollton.
