Spartans drop to 0-2 with loss to Oak Grove

To running back/defensive back Chris Webb, Richmond’s 48-26 loss Sept. 1 to visiting Oak Grove in varsity 11-man football was characterized by a good first half and a not-so-good second half. “(We were) doing great on both sides of the ball, offensively and defensively, in the first half,” the junior said Monday a few minutes before he and his fellow Spartans hit the practice field. “We came out pretty hot in the second half, but then, our momentum died down. And then, our mentality died down.” Offensively, the Spartans didn’t help themselves much during the second half, according to coach Nick Persell. “We didn’t move the ball very well in the second half and made some mistakes and didn’t give ourselves very good field position,” Persell commented. “We kind of lost the field position battle there early in the half.” But the Spartans showed some improvement defensively during the second half, Persell said. “(We) just didn’t really get anything going on the offensive side,” he…
