Back to work. That’s the attitude Richmond varsity 11-man football coach Nick Persell and his Spartans are taking after their 4012 Sept. 22 homecoming loss Lafayette County of Higginsville in Missouri River Valley Conference-East Division action. And the Spartans must work on “really everything,” Persell said. “We (have) got to get better at every position, fundamentally, in every spot,” he said. The Spartans also need to work on starting games faster, according to Persell. “On the first three drives of the game, we gave up huge plays – huge runs for touchdowns; and once we settled in a little bit, we finally started to get some stops and looked like we knew what we were doing again,” he said. One of those “huge plays” was Aron Vazquez’s 67-yard TD run that gave the Huskers (5-0 overall, 1-0 MRVC East) the opening lead with 10 minutes, 39 seconds left in the first quarter.
