High heat, drop kicks, random observations and points that amuse are all part of the wide, wide world of sports at the community and national levels.
I received a sports-related mixed blessing recently.
As you’ll recall, Kansas City and Las Vegas faced off in pro football on Black Friday at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. A few weeks before the AFC West Division clash, workplace bestie Miranda Jamison (a.k.a., “MJ”) and I submitted credential requests. Because Excelsior Springs High School grad Sam Webb has bounced between Las Vegas’ practice squad and active roster, we figured we might get the chance to see him play, maybe interview him afterward in the Raiders’ locker room. Or if he didn’t play, maybe we could try to spot him on the sidelines in his uniform. It’d be the athletic equivalent of playing “Where’s Waldo?” – a reference that’ll make sense to readers of a certain age who grew up reading picture books. And, of course, we could check for sightings of Taylor Swift…
