Come on, baseball season.
Let me be clear. When I say “baseball season,” I don’t mean the Major League Baseball (MLB) kind. I’m trying to wean myself from following the major leagues. Yes, I know it seems ironic that someone who gets paid to follow sports is trying to not follow a sport – or at least one level of a sport. But I can’t help it. My love-hate relationship with the major leagues has leaned heavily toward hate since 1994, when bratty owners and ballplayers committed the cardinal sin of forcing the cancelation of the World Series because they couldn’t finalize a collective bargaining agreement. I’m leaning even more toward hate after streaming a recent YouTube video posted by fellow sports journalist Brodie Brazil about the likelihood of yet another strike in about 18 months.
Rather, I mean independent pro baseball, like the kind played by the Kansas City Monarchs in Wyandotte County, Kan. And college baseball. And, most importantly of all, high school baseball,…
