Snyder sees positives on defense, offense in loss to Holden

RICHMOND – Varsity girls basketball coach Chad Snyder saw progress from his young Spartans in their 42-26 Feb. 5 loss to visiting Holden, particularly on defense. “From start to finish … our defensive intensity was probably about as good as it’s been all year,” Snyder said after the Missouri River Valley Conference East Division and court warming defeat. “Once we figure out how to get after people and try to do it without fouling, we’ll be in pretty good shape.” Freshman Laney Moyer, one of eight underclassmen listed on Richmond’s roster, agreed. “We hustled the whole time – and got in front the girls,” Moyer said. “At least (we) tried to.” The defensive-minded Spartans kept it close the first quarter, trailing 10-6 at quarter’s end. Holden built a cushion with a 9-2 second-quarter run. The run helped Holden outscore Richmond 14-6 and lead 24-12 at halftime.
